Skin bio-printing is a promising technology to produce human artificial skin for applications. The artificial skin can be used for safety test of medicines and cosmetics, which can replace the animal tests and expect to generate more consistent and reproducible results. Moreover, bio-printed skin can create complex cell composition and spatial distribution that can mimic human skin color, function and reaction. We anticipate producing the skin by bioprinting with patient’s skin cells that can generate large area skin tissue for skin autograft surgery. Using bioprinting technique with minimal patient’s tissue will reduce harvested area at donor site and discomfort of patients with large wound size.

Drug-loaded nanoparticles are studied for their synthesis, characterization and the drug releasing efficiency. The relationship between drug-loaded nanoparticles, cell proliferation and tissue regeneration is also investigated. Materials including polymer, metal and ceramic can be used to produce nanoparticle. By using hydrophilic or hydrophobic chemical linkers, varied medicines can be loaded into or onto nanoparticles for different application. Drug releasing profile can be controlled by chemical and/or physical interaction between medicine and nanoparticle. To design the burst or controlled release of varied drugs from nanoparticle can perform a suitable concentration for tissue regeneration.
